Charleston County sheriff’s deputies found drugs on a Mount Pleasant man who wrecked his motorcycle trying to evade authorities, Maj. Jim Brady said.

On Sunday, deputies attempted to pull over a motorcyclist about 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of JC Long and Ocean boulevards on the Isle of Palms, Brady said.

The man told deputies that he was “going to the spot,” then sped away. Brady identified the man as Henry Oliver Nesbit Jr., 28, of Presidio Drive.

Nesbit used a bicycle lane to speed past several vehicles, Brady said. He approached a curve on Palm Boulevard and lost control and struck a mailbox, he said.

Deputies approached Nesbit, who was injured and lying on the ground, Brady said.

Deputies confiscated 2.3 grams of marijuana, 2.3 grams of cocaine and $2,918.78 in cash, Brady said.

Nesbit is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, failure to signal and habitual offender, Brady said. The sheriff’s office’s Metro Narcotics Division is handling pending drug charges against Nesbit, he said.

Nesbit remains at a local hospital for treatment, Brady said.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
