The death of a woman hit by a train early Thursday in Hanahan has been ruled a suicide.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said the 53-year-old woman from Goose Creek was standing on the tracks near Hanahan Road at 3:05 a.m., when a northbound train arrived. Salisbury did not release her name.

Hanahan police said the train’s operator reported she was standing in the middle of the tracks with her hands in her pockets.
