ANDREWS – Authorities say the death of a couple in Williamsburg County was an apparent murder-suicide.
Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael Johnson says the couple was driving Wednesday night on a road near Andrews when a witness noticed the vehicle was swerving and then pulled over.
When the witness also pulled over to ask if everything was all right, the male in the car said it was. But a woman in the car then jumped out and yelled for help.
The witness sped off after hearing a gunshot and seeing the woman fall into a ditch. The witness then returned to the scene and called police.
The victims were identified as 52-year-old Christopher White and 48-year-old Merlene Nesmith Martin.
