The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement agencies will be on site Saturday throughout the Lowcountry to collect and dispose of old prescription drugs.
The public can drop off the drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 17 sites throughout Charleston, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Johns Island, Moncks Corner, Mount Pleasant, Harleyville and Parris Island, according to the news release. In all, 5,000 sites are planned across the state and country for the national initiative.
The DEA has destroyed 5.5 million pounds of unused prescriptions over the past five years, the agency reports. The service is free and open to the public with no questions asked, according to the DEA.
