DD4 elementary school teacher arrested, charged with assaulting student

A Dorchester District 4 teacher was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a student, according to the St. George Police Department.

Jeffery Haton, 46, of Blair Road in Summerville, is charged with second-degree assault and battery. According to the school district’s website, he is a physical education teacher at Williams Memorial Elementary School.

St. George Police Chief Brett Camp said Haton was arrested about 2 p.m. at the police department after officers asked to speak with him there. He was taken to the Dorchester County jail and posted bail later the same day, Camp said.

Camp would not go into details of why Haton was charged other than to say there was an incident at the St. George school that involved a student on May 4. No other details were released.
