The long-anticipated handover of the Charleston-based Coast Guard Cutter Dallas to the Phillipine military is scheduled for tomorrow.

The Dallas is the second Hamilton Class cutter from the United States going to the Pacific nation.

Plans are for the vessel to be symbolically turned over to Gen. Jessie Dellosa, Armed Forces chief of staff, and Rear Adm. Jose Luis Alano, Philippine Fleet commander, dock-side in North Charleston.

After a 45-year career at sea, the Dallas is being decommissioned partly because of the cost to keep it afloat.

It will be refurbished before it sails to the Philippines, reports indicate.

The Dallas will be re-named as BRP Ramon Alcaraz.
