Charleston County Administrator Kurt Taylor said staffers recommend the county not engage in alternative technology for handling solid waste right now.
The staff recommended the county continue its plan to build a new recycling facility and continue single-stream recycling.
Two companies, RePower South and Waste Management, had responded to a request for proposals on alternative ways to handle the county’s solid waste. Both companies proposed converting some of the trash to pellets that could be burned as fuel.
Both companies will make presentations at Tuesday’s County Council meeting, and council likely will vote on whether to accept one of them, or continue its current solid waste plan.
