Counterfeit bills, inactive meth lab found at North Charleston home, police say

Diane Ester Buchanan (left), 32, and Michael Lee Hilbourn, 37, both of Sal Lane in North Charleston, are charged with forgery and manufacturing methamphetamine.

A man and woman were arrested after North Charleston police said they found an inactive meth lab and fake money at their residence.

Michael Lee Hilbourn, 37, and Diane Ester Buchanan, 32, are both charged with forgery and manufacturing methamphetamine, Charleston County court records show. They were being held Thursday at the Cannon Detention Center.

Police responded shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday to a Sal Lane home following a report of a possible meth lab, according to an incident report.

The home's owner told investigators he had gotten into an argument with Hilbourn and Buchanan the morning he discovered they may have been cooking meth at his house, the report said.

According to police spokesman Spencer Pryor, investigators found what appeared to be a broken down, inactive meth lab. They also found a printer, paper and counterfeit bills, he said.

The suspects admitted to making the fake money, Pryor said.

A judge set bail at $60,000 each for Hilbourn and Buchanan, jail records showed.
