Coroner: Summerville man’s body found in camper trailer after fire

A 51-year-old Summerville man was found dead Sunday in his camper trailer after it caught fire, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The Pine Ridge Fire Department responded to the fully-involved blaze just before 6:30 a.m. at 408 Red Oak Circle. A woman made it out of the camper and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.

She told officials that her friend was still inside the trailer, according to Salisbury. After firefighters extinguished the fire, they found Terry Alan McClure’s body in the debris, he said. His body was taken to MUSC, where an autopsy will be performed Tuesday.

State Law Enforcement Division fire investigators were called to the scene to assist the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. More information will be released after the autopsy, Salisbury said.
