Coroner: SC woman found near accident scene may have frozen

LORIS, S.C. — The Horry County deputy coroner says a woman whose body was found over the weekend not far from her wrecked car may have frozen to death.

Tony Hendrick tells local media outlets that an autopsy performed Monday indicates that 24-year-old Stephanie Callahan did not have injuries that might have been suffered in an accident.

But he said additional tests are needed before investigators can say for sure how she died.

Her body was found Sunday off of a road in Loris just south of the North Carolina state line. She is thought to have crashed her car early Thursday.

Authorities earlier responded to the wreck but found no one there and the car was towed.
