Coroner: Man crushed, killed by equipment at Nucor Steel

A man was killed Saturday morning after being pinned and crushed between two pieces of equipment at Nucor Steel.

The man, an out of state sub-contractor, was pronounced dead at the plant in Huger, Berkeley County Corner Bill Salisbury said.

Rescue teams from Berkeley and Charleston counties worked for six hours to free the man, Salisbury said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified about the death, he said.

Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies are handling an investigation.

The man will be identified when his family is notified, Salisbury said.
