Cool today in Charleston, freeze warning tonight farther inland

Today in Charleston should be cool, with freezing temperatures likely tonight farther inland, according to the National Weather Service.

Today should be sunny, with a high near 54. An overnight freeze warning is in effect for areas that include Summerville, Moncks Corner and Walterboro. Freezing temperatures are most likely between 2 and 8 a.m. Temperatures in some places are likely to drop as low as 29 degrees, which is cold enough to damage outdoor plants and possibly freeze pipes.

The outlook for Charleston for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: Patchy frost before 8 a.m., then sunny, with a high near 61 and an overnight low around 43. Wednesday: Partly sunny, high near 65, low around 51.

Thursday: Partly sunny, high near 70, low around 57.

Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 73, low around 56.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 73, low around 52.

Sunday: Partly sunny, high near 62.
