CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Bond has been denied for a Conway man charged with sexually assaulting a relative's girlfriend.

Local media outlets report that bond was denied Saturday for 52-year-old William Mattson. He's charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Mattson was arrested New Year's Day. Authorities say a relative of Mattson's told them he came home and found his girlfriend and Mattson in the bed. The woman was naked, and Mattson was clothed.

The man said he beat Mattson until he was out of the house. Authorities say he won't be charged because he was defending her.

Mattson told authorities he and the woman had both been drinking.

Mattson was still jailed Monday, and it wasn't known if he had an attorney. Authorities said he was next scheduled in court March 20.
