Colonial Lake work to begin Jan. 19

Colonial Lake will be fenced off beginning Monday as a year-long construction project begins to make several improvements there.

Beginning Monday, Colonial Lake will be fenced off as a year-long renovation project begins.

Wildwood Landscape Contractors will begin by installing the silt fence, tree protection and temporary construction fencing to secure the site. It then will begin demolition work and preparation for drainage upgrades.

The park between Ashley and Rutledge avenues just south of Beaufain Street will be closed, and some on-street parking spaces also will not be available during the work.

The $5.2 million project will add a new pipe connecting the lake to the Ashley River, which will help improve its water quality. It also will add new gardens, pathways, seating and shade trees. Both Rutledge and Ashley will be narrowed slightly to create space for new street trees.
