Clear, warm day in store before storm chance shoots up in Charleston area

The skies should be mostly sunny, and thermometers are expected to reach about 87 degrees Monday in the Charleston area before the daily chance of storminess shoots up.

The National Weather Service predicted a threat of isolated thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Tuesday, then an elevated chance of rain throughout the rest of the workweek.

Around Interstate 95 and points west, isolated severe storms were possible Monday afternoon.

Here are the details:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Monday night: Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. South wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Light south wind becoming southeast 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
