Citizens help Charleston police arrest suspect after armed robbery

Brian Kuhn

A man who held up a West Ashley restaurant Wednesday was quickly arrested thanks to tips from two citizens, according to Charleston police.

A man with a handgun went into Atomic Wings on Magwood Drive about 12:30 p.m. and demanded money from the cash register and the cashier’s cellphone, according to police spokesman Charles Francis. The cashier told him she didn’t have her phone and gave him money from the register.

A citizen who was parked nearby saw the man get out of a vehicle and enter the business, then run out and speed off. The witness was able to give police a description of the man and the vehicle.

Another person who was driving by saw the vehicle speeding off, followed it to a nearby parking lot on Ashley River Road and reported the information to dispatch. Police arrived soon after to arrest the man, Francis said.

Brian Kuhn, 36, of Springview Lane in Summerville is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was being held in the Charleston County jail Thursday.
