Dorchester County Council selected David Chinnis Monday as its next chairman.
Chinnis, who has been on Council since 2010, was elected unanimously by his fellow council members to replace outgoing chairman Bill Hearn.
At the Council meeting, Hearn thanked his fellow members and county staff for their hard work in moving the Dorchester forward.
Chinnis thanked Hearn for his service and leadership, noting that Hearn has led the county in a positive direction, especially in the area of economic development. Chinnis said his goal is to continue that momentum.
"I hope that I can wield the gavel as judiciously as Mr. Hearn," Chinnis said. "I've got some big shoes to fill."
Council re-elected George Bailey as vice chairman. Bailey has served as vice chair since coming to Council in 2011.
