CHESTER, S.C. — Two Chester County officials have been fired after their boss said they had conspired to destroy an audio recording of a council meeting.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported that County Council Clerk Carolyn Clayton and information technology consultant Eddie Buchanan were fired Tuesday.
County Supervisor Shane Stuart said he fired them and has asked sheriff’s deputies to investigate the destruction of the recording.
Clayton says she did not destroy anything.
She said she asked Buchanan to delete part of a conversation that was “inadvertently” recorded during an executive session at the April 20 meeting.
Clayton said she is reviewing her legal options.
Buchanan said he edited copies of the recording, but did not destroy the original.
