Seven charter schools are coming together Wednesday to host an informational expo for prospective students who are interested in their programs.
The gathering will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, 5055 International Blvd., in North Charleston.
All but one of the schools, Palmetto Scholars Academy, offer classes online. Palmetto Scholars Academy leases space on the former Navy base and targets gifted and talented students. It will offer classes for students in sixth through 11th grades this fall.
Other charter schools that will be present include: Palmetto State E-cademy, South Carolina Connections Academy, S.C. Whitmore School, Provost Academy South Carolina, South Carolina Virtual Charter School and Cyber Academy of South Carolina.
Nearly 21,000 public school students statewide will be enrolled in 61 public charter schools this fall. Charter schools are public schools, but they are not governed by county school boards. They instead have separate boards to make decisions about funding, policy and curriculum.
