Charleston Water System announces planned downtown water outages for Tuesday, Wednesday

Two scheduled water outages this week will each affect about 100 downtown residents, according to Charleston Water System.

The outage Tuesday is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will impact 120 customers on Rutledge Avenue between Spring and Line streets, Humphrey Court, Porter’s Court and Sires Street from Rose Lane to Bogard Street.

The outage Wednesday is scheduled for the same hours and will impact 100 customers on Rose Lane and Ashe Street between Spring and Line streets.

Affected customers are being notified with door hangers and phone calls.

The outages are for water main valve replacements associated with the Downtown Water Main Rehab Project. It’s a six-month project to rehabilitate main water lines on portions of Rutledge Avenue, as well as Bogard, Congress, Race and Carolina streets.

Charleston Water System said Monday that crews will work to restore service as quickly as possible during the outages. After service is restored, some customers may experience discolored water. Instructions from the company are to let cold water run until water in the faucet runs clear.
