Charleston police arrested Richard Simmons, 17, around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in connection with an aggravated assault, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a teenager was reportedly “punched and kicked” at the intersection of Romney and Nassau streets, Francis said.

The victim’s mother notified police about the assault, according to a report, and Simmons was taken into custody on Romney Street where he lives.
