Charleston police are searching for a man accused of burglarizing a woman's home and attempting to cash a stolen check.
Joseph Nelson, 43, of Charleston, is wanted on burglary and forgery charges, Charleston police said. He previously lived on Race Street, police said.
The charges are in connection with a burglary that happened Wednesday on Morris Street.
A woman told police that she returned to her home and found that her front door had been damaged. Everything appeared to be in place in the home, except for a missing First Federal Bank checkbook, an incident report states.
Nelson later visited the bank at 172 Ashley Ave., presented a stolen check for $400 and asked to cash it, police said.
Nelson is described as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 195 pounds. He had not been located as of Friday morning.
