Charleston police holding town hall meeting Thursday through Twitter

UPDATE: The town hall meeting will be rescheduled because of police action in West Ashley Thursday.

The Charleston Police Department will conduct a town hall meeting through Twitter on Thursday.

The forum will center on family violence issues, spokesman Charles Francis said. It’s set for 1 to 2 p.m.

Questions can be submitted Thursday before the meeting to @Charlestonpd using the hash tag #DFV.

The department plans to hold a Twitter town hall meeting on various issues once a month, Francis said.

“Using Twitter to conduct a public forum is a new way for us to further connect citizens with their police department,” Chief Greg Mullen said in a statement. “This is a really unique opportunity to reach out on social media and have an open dialogue about such an important issue.”
