Charleston police asking help finding suspect in mechanic fraud

A 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix similar to this one has been reported stolen.

Charleston police are asking for help finding a man they said a stole a car after he said he was going to repair it.

Angelo Leonard Thompson, 46, of Spruce Boulevard in North Charleston, is wanted for breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

Thompson told the victim he would repair a blue 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix but never gave it back, according to police. The car is considered stolen.

Thompson is described as gray and balding, about 5 feet 11 inches and 200 pounds. Police said either Thompson or an unidentified heavyset black woman may be driving the car.

Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 743-7200 and ask for the on-call Charleston police detective.
