Charleston police arrested two North Charleston men at an Ashley River Road apartment after shots were fired in the area early Sunday.

Brandon Lloyd Daniels, 20, of Larry Street and Lamarkeis Forrest, 19, of New England Drive were charged with attempted armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Police say two people approached a stairwell at the apartment complex and saw two masked men come from the lower deck.

One of the men was armed with a pistol, Francis said.

The two people ran away from the men and heard shots fired as they fled, Francis said.

Officers stopped a silver Chevy Cruze they saw speed away from the area, Francis said.

Officers saw a man run from the passenger side of the vehicle and discard a pistol, Francis said.

The weapon was found and the man and the driver were arrested.

Both men were held at the Charleston County jail, Francis said.
