A 27-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with a stabbing at a West Ashley apartment complex early Monday.

Charleston Police have charged Derrick Alonzo Carter with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to police spokesman Charles Francis.

Police were called to Charleston Arms Apartments on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard just before 3 a.m. Monday where they found two men with stab wounds in the apartment complex courtyard, Francis said.

An investigation revealed the two men got into an argument that escalated when one of the men allegedly stabbed the other. Francis said the victim fought back, grabbed the knife and then stabbed his assailant, later identified as Carter.

Both men were taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment.
