Charleston police arrest man accused of pantless driving

Lionel Smalls, 28, of Kitfield Road in Moncks Corner, is charged with two counts of indecent exposure.

Charleston police on Monday arrested a Moncks Corner man accused of driving a BMW while naked below the belt.

Lionel Smalls, 28, of Kitfield Road, is charged with two counts of indecent exposure, Charleston County jail records show.

Authorities were called Monday to the area of Murray and Ashley boulevards around 12:30 p.m., according to an incident report.

A 30-year-old woman told police that a man driving a black BMW approached her and asked for directions to Colonial Street. The woman started to give directions, but she soon noticed that the driver wasn't wearing pants.

When asked why he was half naked, the man responded "I never wear pants," the report states.

The woman walked away and called authorities.

A short time later, authorities received a second call from a juvenile near the Harris Teeter store on East Bay Street.

The girl told police that she was on her way to the store when a man in an older model vehicle stopped her and asked for directions to Charleston Law. She stopped to talk with the man but he was forced to move his vehicle when a second car pulled up behind him, a report said.

The driver approached the girl for a second time near the Harris Teeter parking lot.

The girl then noticed that the man's pants were down at his ankles and his genitals were exposed, police said.

The girl took note of the man's license plate number and called authorities, the report said.

Smalls is being held at the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing.
