Charleston man held on $300,000 bail on child porn charges

A Charleston man is in jail on $300,000 bail after investigators said he shared images of naked children.

Andrew Lee Poff, 31, of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard is charged with three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He surrendered to police Monday morning after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The arrest affidavit says that in November, Poff used a file-sharing network to distribute three images of girls who appeared to be between the ages of 9 and 13 in “a state of sexually explicit nudity.”

Poff’s attorney, Jim Brown of Beaufort, pointed out that Poff recently earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina in Beaufort and was not a flight risk and asked for a low bail. Charleston Police Detective Doug Galluccio said Poff is a danger to society and more charges could follow after more forensic evaluation of his laptop that was seized after a search warrant.

Charleston County Magistrate Sheryl Perry set his bail. The bond conditions include no access to the Internet and no contact with anyone under 18.

The maximum penalty if convicted is 10 years for each charge.
