A 38-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after drinking with her in downtown Charleston was arrested Monday.
Tyreece Dwight Washington of Blake Street on Charleston’s East Side area faces a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He posted $20,000 bail Monday and was released from the Charleston County jail.
The alleged incident occurred Jan. 29 at his home, and the victim reported it to police Feb. 1.
She said Washington had been drinking with her and some friends at Recovery Room Tavern on King Street, according to a police report. She reported having several shots of liquor and at least one beer and said she felt dizzy and couldn’t see straight around 2 a.m., which was unusual for her after drinking, the report states.
Washington offered to take the woman to his house to spend the night, and she agreed, she told police. She added that she fell asleep on Washington’s bed, and when she woke up, he was on top of her, having sex. She said she couldn’t move or speak, but tried to say, “No, stop,” according to the report.
The next morning, she reported that she felt sore and said Washington drove her to her car, told her that he hoped they could “do this again” and then gave her a high-five before leaving, the report states.
When the woman returned home, her friend said she had very slurred speech and drove her to an area hospital, where a rape kit test was done, according to the report. A nurse collected her clothing. She told police that she waited to contact them because the incident involved her friends and she didn’t know how to handle it.
