Charleston deputies, SLED capture suspect in drug probe

Charleston County narcotics detectives and SLED agents have arrested an Awendaw man in connection with a lengthy drug investigation.

Investigators located 26-year-old Terry Clarida of U.S. Hwy 17 on Tuesday at a home on Houston Street in North Charleston, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

Clarida was wanted on outstanding warrants as a result of a six-month drug investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office, Mount Pleasant police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Brady said. The probe focused on the “Ten Mile” White Hall Terrace and Copahee Neighborhoods, he said..

The investigation resulted in three arrests for drug distribution charges, Brady said. Investigators had been looking for Clarida since that time.

He is charged with four counts of distribution of cocaine base, one count of distribution of heroin, one count of distribution cocaine base, felon in possession of a firearm and distribution of cocaine base, Brady said. The last two charges are federal counts charged by ATF.
