Charleston County Sheriff’s Office to offer shelter from the cold

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office will open beds at its work camp facility on Leeds Avenue to anyone seeking shelter this week from the cold.

The work camp will remain open from 4 p.m. Thursday until Monday, according to sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson. CARTA will offer free rides to the facility, he said.

Temperatures are expected to drop tonight to about 27 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Friday’s lows will also be in the upper 20s.

The weekend is expected to be sunny with a lows around 32 degrees Saturday and 24 degrees Sunday, according to the Weather Service.
