Charleston County School District to host sixth annual “From Boyz To Gentlemen” summit

Charleston County School District’s Parent University will host its sixth annual “From Boyz To Gentlemen” summit on Saturday.

The event, “Raising successful sons in the 21st century,” will last from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at West Ashley High, 4060 W. Wildcat Blvd., in Charleston. Lunch and child care will be provided. The event is free and open to any Charleston County School District parent.

The event will include speakers, panelists and workshops for both parents and male students up to age 21 addressing issues of improving academic and life outcomes for young men of color. Some of the day’s highlights include: keynote speaker state Sen. Marlon Kimpson; a panel session for parents targeting topics such as juvenile justice, health and wellness and higher education; and a town hall meeting for boys in grades 4-12 that will focus on stories of success.

Retired NFL lineman Langston Moore will talk to students about his Eat2Win Football Camp and health awareness program.
