A Charleston County School District employee was arrested Thursday after child pornography was reportedly found on his work-issued laptop.
Marvin Gethers, 57, of Dunlap Street in North Charleston is charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He worked as a parent advocate at North Charleston’s Dunston Primary School, district spokeswoman Erica Taylor said. He was fired from the position on Thursday, she said.
The charge stemmed from accusations raised in March 2014, according to an incident report released by North Charleston police. A representative from the district’s IT department alerted police after apparent child pornography was found on a laptop that had been issued to an employee, the report stated.
The laptop was turned over to investigators for a forensic examination. The investigation resulted in a warrant for Gethers’ arrest, according to the report.
Police arrested Gethers around 3 a.m. Thursday at a home on Picardy Place. He is being held at the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing.
