The Charleston County jail is opening its doors to the public next week.
The Sheriff Cannon Detention Center Job Fair & Community Event will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 31 at 3841 Leeds Ave., North Charleston.
The event, the first of its kind for the Sheriff's Office, is not only for recruiting detention officers and medical personnel but also to let people tour the facility, according to a news release.
The jail is collaborating with the Carolina Center for Occupational Health to sponsor the event for those who are interested in becoming a certified detention officer or working in the medical field. CCOH provides medical care for inmates and is recruiting nurses.
Attendees and potential applicants can tour of the facility, and some Sheriff's Office specialized equipment and vehicles will be on display.
Families are invited, and free food will be available.
Those applying for a job are recommended to complete an application online and bring it with them. Applicants also can apply at the job fair. Testing will happen during the event.
