The Charleston Metro Chamber Political Action Committee announced endorsements Tuesday for four candidates for Charleston County School Board.
The committee’s board reviewed questionnaires and interviewed candidates, and they are supporting John Barter and Jim Ramich for the two West Ashley seats, Todd Garrett for the downtown seat and Mattese Lecque for one of two North Charleston seats. The committee did not support a second candidate for North Charleston.
The goal of the chamber’s PAC is to identify and support candidates whose goals support that of the chamber’s business advocacy priorities.
“We need members of the school board to understand what it is to govern, not micromanage,” said Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ron Jones. “If we are going to transform education outcomes in our community, we need a school board that can work together to set the policies that are needed to help every child in Charleston County School District to succeed. That is clearly not going to happen with the current board.”
Candidates must live in certain areas, but they are elected by the entire county.
