Thanks to Travel + Leisure magazine, it's no secret that Charleston is one of the top tourist destinations in North America. But it's not just history nuts, foodies and cruise ship enthusiasts making their way to our fair city. The celebrities love us too.
Here are seven memorable moments when celebrities ate up their visit to The Holy City:
Sure, Bourdain was here to film his CNN show “Parts Unknown” and McBride is filming “Vice Principals” in the area, but for one night they acted like tourists. And Bill Murray was there, too! As The Post and Courier's Hanna Raskin wrote, “Social media was briefly ablaze with news that Bourdain and Husk chef Sean Brock, who apparently served as Bourdain's local host, joined actor and local resident Bill Murray and “Eastbound & Down” star Danny McBride at the RiverDogs game. The celebrity chefs snacked on foot-long hot dogs wrapped in bacon, ramen, brisket sandwiches and tacos, a team spokesman said. RiverDogs' general manager Dave Echols called the appearance “pretty cool.”
Remember when Vice President Joe Biden took selfies and got an ice cream cone? Britany Sease and Pebbles Goodwine sure do! The Veep stopped at Marble Slab during one of his semi-annual visits to Kiawah Island. But before he walked away with his ice cream, he demonstrated how handy he was with an iPhone. And that's wasn't the end of it. Biden was captured on social media taking selfies with fans several more times during his visit.
Actor Kevin Spacey can now be forgiven for K-PAX. Spacey showed off his sense of humor while visiting Charleston in the summer of 2013. Predictably for locals, the combination of a high tide and a little rain led to some flooding. That didn't stop the star of “House of Cards.” Spacey was captured in the middle of Wentworth Street enjoying the weather.
Gronk always has a good time. New England Patriots' tight end and Super Bowl hero Rob Gronkowski tore it up on his visit to Charleston. Whether on Folly Beach hanging with masses or enjoying the bikini contest at The Windjammer on Isle of Palms, if Gronkowski was there, the party ensued. Looks like the gifted athlete will be coming back soon.
Even 007 can't keep his visits to Charleston a secret. Daniel Craig, who played James Bond in the world-famous movie series, enjoyed a meal at The MacIntosh with his beautiful wife, Rachel Weize, also a big-time Hollywood celebrity. We've seen our fair share of celebrities in Charleston but this visit had even the most serious of businessmen excited. “Bond James Bond ate at the @MacIntoshCHS today. Ill admit it. I dorked out,” wrote accomplished Charleston restaurateur Steve Palmer on Twitter.
