Car of drowning victim from Mt. Pleasant found in downtown Charleston

Charleston County sheriff’s investigators have recovered the vehicle of Joanna Joly, whose body washed up March 27 on Sullivan’s Island.

Charleston County detectives have located the missing car of a Mount Pleasant woman found dead on Sullivan’s Island last week.

Investigators canvassing downtown Charleston on Thursday found 25-year-old Joanna Joly’s 2005 Honda Accord on the corner of Laurens and East Bay streets, sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

Based on the preliminary investigation, which included interviews and the collection of physical evidence, there is nothing to suggest foul play in Joly’s death, Watson said.

The vehicle was towed back to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, where it will be examined, he said.

Joly’s body washed up on Sullivan’s Island on March 27. She died of drowning, but her manner of death was released by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office as pending.
