A car hit a utility pole on Savannah Highway Tuesday afternoon, knocking out power to the neighborhood for a while.

Around 2 p.m., a car struck a pole near Arlington Drive and then a brick sign in front of Coastal Community Church, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Houses in the nearby Avondale neighborhood lost power, according to SCE&G’s website.

Arlington Drive was closed for about two hours.

The driver and passenger had minor injuries. The cause of the accident was under investigation and may have been a medical issue, Maj. Jim Brady said.
