The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was struck and killed by a train in Hanahan early this morning.
Daniel Martin Perry, 56, of Hanahan was pronounced dead on the scene of the wreck, Coroner Bill Salisbury said.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Mabeline Road and Railroad Avenue shortly before 6 a.m.
Officials think Perry attempted to pass a stopped freight train and his vehicle was struck by a northbound Amtrak train running on a second pair of tracks, Hanahan police spokesman Lt. Mike Fowler said.
The tracks sit on the Hanahan city line behind Trident Technical College.
