Businesses taking up collections for annual Tricounty Ministries event

A “Love Drive” is being held over the next week to collect goods for Tricounty Family Ministries’ annual Christmas Client Brunch.

A coalition of area businesses and organizations is collecting items for the next week to give to those in need at an annual Tricounty Family Ministries holiday event.

Belmond Charleston Place and the Charleston Grill are heading up an event called, “Love Drive,” and partnering with others to to collect new and gently used coats, new, unwrapped toys and funds for Tricounty Family Ministries, according to a Wednesday media release.

The donations will support the nonprofit’s annual Client Christmas Brunch on Dec. 21 at the North Charleston Center. Last year, nearly 1,600 individuals were served at the event, which has music, food and activities to get people in the Christmas spirit. Every family or individual who attends is given a gift of non-perishable food, as well as a warm coat and toys for children.

Other items people can donate include personal care items, feminine hygiene products, disposable diapers and adult underwear.

Collection bins will be at Nick’s Original BBQ, Mellow Mushroom and Belmond Charleston Place Sunday during Second Sunday on King Street.
