Three Mount Pleasant schools were locked down Tuesday afternoon after a car ran over a basketball and the explosive rupture was mistaken for gunshot.

Laurel Hill Primary, Cario Middle and Pinckney Elementary schools, all in the Park West development, were locked down briefly after the loud blast about 3 p.m., officials said.

Contrary to initial reports, the explosive sound did not come from an overinflated jump castle, Mount Pleasant police said.
