Body recovered from water near aircraft carrier Yorktown

Boats from the Charleston police and North Charleston fire departments rest at the Harbor Pilots Station, where authorities returned Monday morning after recovering a body from the water off Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant.

— A body was recovered from the water Monday off Patriots Point, a police official said.

Authorities got a call around 11:06 a.m. about a body spotted across from the aircraft carrier Yorktown at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department was handling the investigation into how the body got there, and Francis said he could not release further information.

On Saturday night, the Coast Guard, along with local firefighters and police officers, searched Charleston Harbor after a report that a person had jumped from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
