Body found on Johns Island confirmed as missing hunter

William Todd Long

A body found on Johns Island was confirmed Friday to be that of a hunter who went missing in the area.

The body of William Long, 46, of Mary Ann Point Road, was recovered Thursday night from a pond off Shady Oak Drive, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Sara Senn said.

The cause and manner of Long’s death are still undetermined, Senn said.

Maj. Eric Watson, a spokesman for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, said there was no immediate reason to suspect foul play.

Family members had reported Long missing Wednesday night after he didn’t return from a hunting outing. An incident report stated that his brother found his bicycle, fishing pole and shotgun with a spent shell inside near the pond.
