Body found in river in Mount Pleasant identified as missing, wanted man

The body pulled from the Wando River in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday has been identified as a missing man.

He was Clifford Raynard Palmer, 45, of Mount Pleasant, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Sheila Williams. The cause of death is under investigation.

Palmer was reported missing Feb. 6 by his live-in girlfriend, according to a media release from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. He was last seen leaving the scene of a crash on U.S. Highway 41 and Clements Ferry Road near Huger. He was wanted by the S.C. Highway Patrol for leaving the scene and driving on a suspended license.

Palmer’s body was found just after 6 p.m. Tuesday off Hartfords Bluff Lane in the Rivertowne community off Highway 41. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death.
