A boat that sank Thursday morning in Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant has been refloated and all fuel removed, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard on Monday released the Miss Caroline back to its owner, who was asked to make permanent repairs or have the 45-foot pleasure boat removed from the water.

The boat was mostly submerged at the pier near Geechie Seafood and was actively sheening diesel fuel.

After the vessel’s owner was unable to salvage it, the Coast Guard contracted Eason Diving and Marine and Moran Towing to conduct recovery and cleanup operations.

The vessel will remain boomed off with a soft sorbent padding for a while to capture any residual pollution.
