The Best Friend of Charleston, a replica of the locomotive that was part of in the city’s early transportation needs, is scheduled to return to Charleston in September.

The engine has been on loan to Norfolk Southern railway’s headquarters in Atlanta for the last few years.

But by September, most of the construction of a new glass-enclosed display museum should be complete near Ann and John streets downtown, officials said this week.

The glass-enclosed site will feature more than 3,500-square-foot of museum space.
