A 28-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Sunday night after a 40-year-old man shot her, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just after 8:30 p.m. to Trident Medical Center, where North Charleston police were talking with a man who said he accidentally shot the woman, according to an incident report.
The man, who does not appear to have been arrested according to online records, said he and the woman went on a motorcycle ride together earlier in the day and returned to his residence on Jedburg Road in Summerville. He told police he was cleaning out his Beretta 9 mm while the woman was outside cooking food on the grill when a round was discharged and went through the wall.
The woman was struck in her left-side midsection and the man took her to the hospital, the report states. Her condition is unknown.
No other information was released and Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said the case remains under investigation.
