Berkeley County man gets 40 months in jail on child porn charges

David Scott Pearson

A Berkeley County man has been sentenced to 40 months in jail on child pornography charges.

David Scott Pearson, 49, of Moncks Corner pleaded guilty on Wednesday to two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, the S.C. attorney general’s office announced Friday.

Pearson distributed files containing child pornography to Detective Lt. Kevin Murphy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Computer equipment was found at Pearson’s home with those files and other child porn, as well as evidence that he had searched it out and downloaded it, according to prosecutors.

Pearson pleaded guilty after a day of trial testimony. Judge Steven John sentenced him to eight years, suspended to serving 40 months and five years of probation.

He forfeited the seized computer equipment and must register as a sex offender upon release.

Assistant Deputy Attorney General Kyle Senn prosecuted.
