Berkeley County K-9 Gotcha ‘will be sorely missed’

A Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office service dog named Gotcha “will be sorely missed,” according to a Monday announcement.

Gotcha was 10 years old and started with the department in 2006. He continued to serve until recently as “partner and family member” of Sgt. Scott Cook and died unexpectedly, according to the announcement.

“K-9 Gotcha’s service to the citizens of Berkeley County cannot be overstated,” Sheriff Duane Lewis said in the announcement. “He will be sorely missed. Please keep Sgt. Cook and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

K-9 Gotcha assisted in numerous arrests and was certified in both patrol operations and narcotics detection, according to the announcement.
