Berkeley County School Board on Tuesday gave initial approval to a plan that creates an attendance zone for its newest elementary school.
Nexton Elementary School is expected to open in August with about 600 students. The school is built for 900 students.
The opening means shifts in attendance areas for Cane Bay Elementary, Sangaree Elementary, Sangaree Intermediate and College Park Elementary.
Among the biggest changes: the Weatherstone, Carriage Lane, and Tramway areas will move from the Sangaree schools to Nexton, and the Tall Pines area will move from College Park Elementary to the Sangaree schools.
In addition, fifth grade will stay at Cane Bay Elementary next year.
There will be no changes next school year for Berkeley Elementary, Berkeley Intermediate or Whitesville Elementary.
